THE COMMANDANT (OVERLOOKING) HONORS NOTABLE SERVICE OF RETIRING SENIOR OFFICERS IN THE VOLUNTEER FORCE

A solemn yet celebratory event took place at the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 21 January, as a few senior officers marked their retirement after decades of dedicated service to the nation and the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commandant (Overlooking) of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, presided over the occasion. He warmly welcomed the retiring senior officers and recognized their unwavering commitment, exemplary service, and significant contributions during their distinguished careers, encompassing both wartime and post-war periods. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices and support of their families, who stood by them throughout their military journeys.

The officers honored at the ceremony included Colonel R M H Jayatissa, Colonel I K A W Perera RSP, Colonel A G S Kumara,Colonel M R R S Ganegodaand Lieutenant Colonel P B G Vithanage SLNG.

These senior officers have been pillars of strength and leadership within the Sri Lanka Army, contributing immensely to its operational success and institutional growth. Their dedication, professionalism, and integrity have been vital in shaping the Army's achievements, while their leadership has inspired camaraderie and unity among their peers.

As a token of appreciation, Major General Lanka Amarapala presented special mementos to the outgoing officers. In response, the retirees conveyed heartfelt gratitude for the thoughtful gesture and for the Commandant’s steadfast guidance throughout their careers. They also commended the Commandant for arranging such a meaningful farewell.

The event was attended by Brigadier B M R JBandara, Deputy Commandant (Overlooking); Brigadier A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndu, Principal Staff Officer; as well as other senior officers and officers of the SLAVF Headquarters. The gathering extended their best wishes for the retiring officers’ health, prosperity, and a fulfilling post-retirement life.
