The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force celebrated the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, observed on 16th September every year, which commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987. Countries bound by this international treaty committed to phasing out the use of ozone-depleting substances, a crucial step in protecting the Earth's vital stratospheric ozone layer from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
The Sri Lanka Army leads by example, serving as a pioneer in building a green nation while steadfastly fulfilling its foremost duties and responsibilities. In line with the scheduled itineraries of the day, a programme of planting saplings was launched by Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc - the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) at the camp premises symbolizing the significance of the day.
