HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FOR DISASTER-AFFECTED CIVILIANS IN RUPAHA, NUWARAELLIYA ORGANIZED BY THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH

In accordance with the concept of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc and the Honourable President of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs. Darshani Yahampath, a humanitarian assistance programme was conducted for civilians affected by adverse weather conditions.

Accordingly, a distribution programme of clothings and drinking water was carried out on 6 January 2026 for the 155 families (550 family members) resided in Abaliyadhdha Grama Seva Division area in Nuwaraelliya District.

The clothing required for this social welfare initiative was provided through the “Tears to Smile” project initiated by Professor Mahesh Vitharana which is being implemented by a collective of Sri Lankans residing in the United Arab Emirates to extend relief to Sri Lankans affected by recent disasters, along with financial contributions from the Seva Vanitha Branch SLLI.

This humanitarian programme was coordinated by the Commandant of the Regimental Training School, Colonel HBT Priyankara, together with the Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Branch and its members. The event was further attended by the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment, staff officers and Other Ranks.
