DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE UNVEILS THE HISTORY BOOK OF THE 1ST BATTALION SRI LANKA LIGHT INFANTRY
The 75th Anniversary History Book - Third Volume of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) was ceremonially launched on 21 May 2025 at the Regimental Centre of SLLI.
Major General K.P Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) WWV RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Deputy Minister of Defence, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Upon his arrival, the Deputy Minister was accorded a warm welcome by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, along with the Commander Security Forces Jaffna and the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc.
Former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the Commander of Sri Lanka Army General Shantha Kottegoda (Retd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc, delivered an inspiring keynote speech that reflected on the enduring legacy and distinguished service of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Following the speech, the first copies of the commemorative book were ceremonially presented to the chief guest and other esteemed dignitaries.
In keeping with modern accessibility, e-versions of the history book were also simultaneously launched on the official websites of the Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
The event brought together an esteemed gathering that included former Army Commanders, former Chiefs of Staff of the Army, former Colonels of the Regiment, retired Senior Officers, Council members, Officers and a group of Senior Non-commissioned Officers of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, all of whom have played pivotal roles in the regiment’s rich and storied past.
This publication stands as a tribute to the proud history, sacrifices and unwavering dedication of Sri Lanka Light Infantry across decades of service to the nation.
