The 1st Battalion, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (1 SLSR) recently organized two timely and vital educational programs aimed at enhancing awareness among the troops on pressing contemporary social issues, namely, Online Betting and Money Scams, and Drug Abuse Prevention.
These sessions, conducted at the battalion headquarters, were initiated under the guidance and leadership of Major M A N C Wickramasinghe RWP RSP USP psc, the Commanding Officer of 1 SLSR.
On Saturday, 10th May, an awareness session on “Online Betting and Money Scams” was conducted by Captain P A P S Chandrarathna CR. The lecture focused on exposing the tactics commonly employed by scammers, highlighting the legal implications and personal consequences of engaging in online betting. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of financial discipline and safeguarding one’s personal information.
The following day, on Sunday, 11th May, troops participated in a session on “Drug Abuse and Prevention from Addiction to Dangerous Drugs,” facilitated by Mr. Sampath De Seram, Executive Director of the Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC). The program emphasized the serious health, legal, and social repercussions of drug abuse while encouraging preventative practices and personal accountability.
These awareness sessions not only contribute to troops welfare but also equip soldiers with essential knowledge to combat financial fraud and substance abuse. By addressing these critical issues, the battalion continues to reinforce the values of discipline, awareness, and resilience among its ranks.
At the conclusion of the program, the Commanding Officer presented plaques of appreciation to the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions.
