Sri Lanka Guard Unit Returns After Completing Deployment in Mali

The second group of the Sri Lanka Guard Unit (SLGU)-MINUSMA, comprising 13 Officers and 90 Other Ranks, arrived in Sri Lanka on 23 July 2024, marking the conclusion of their mission in Mali.

Upon their arrival at BIA, the troops received a warm welcome from Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu - Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR, Major General S.A.N.D Edirisinghe RWP RSP Hdmc psc - Director General General Staff, Brigadier C.S Thibbotuge - Centre Commandant SLSR, along with a few senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army.

The first group of SLGU troops, comprising 7 Officers and 97 Other Ranks, also arrived in Sri Lanka on 22 July 2024.

Marking the end of their mission in Mali, the Contingent Commander, Colonel W.W.N.P Wicramaarachchi handed over the UN flag to the Colonel of the Regiment SLSR at Bandaranaike International Airport.
