Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment bid farewell to the Overlooking Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment Major General G R R P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu on 8 December 2023, who retired after serving more than 35 years in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army. Ceremony was held in its customary way at Regimental Centre, Ambepussa.
According to military traditions, Colonel TBMR Kandekumbura RSP USP, Deputy Centre Commandant RC SLSR, welcomed the Chief Guest and invited him to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Afterwards, he was accompanied by Brigadier C S Thibbotuge, Centre Commandant RC SLSR to receive the salute of the Guard of Honour. After a while, he was invited to commemorate the fallen War Heroes at the SLSR war heroes’ monument.
Later in the day, he was joined all ranks for refreshments where he shared a few thoughts with the attendees.
In the day’s events, newly constructed Senior Officers’ Accommodation facility, cricket pavilion complex and an out bound training accommodation facility (Mud Hut) which were constructed under the instructions of the Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, vested in them after unveiling a plaque and cutting a ribbon.
During the ceremony, all Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing distinguished senior officer for his commitment and dedication to the Sinha Regiment and wished him a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous life.
At the end of the, a glamorous mess night was arranged and to recognize his military leadership and unparalleled contribution to the Army, a special memento was presented to the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment, by Major General U D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment during the formal Dinner.
