Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assumed duties as the new Commander of the Security Forces - West on Thursday (16) amid religious blessings and military ceremonials at the SFHeadquarters-West in Panagoda.
The newly-appointed Commander of the Security Forces-West was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout and a subsequent Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions.
Afterwards, he was invited to plant a sapling in the compound as a symbol of memory. Later on, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of duties, amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’. A few Senior Officers were also present at the venue.
An All Rank tea and a formal address to the Officers culminated the day’s proceedings. General Officer Commanding of the 61 Division, Directors and Center Commandants under command to the SFHQ-West, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the occasion.
Prior to his present appointment, he held the office of the General Officer Commanding, 11 Division at Kundasale. He is also the Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
