Troops of the 11 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment organized a distribution programme of 65 Buddha statues and 65 Bodhi Pooja books among the families of No 135 A, GS Division of Gemunupura at Mangalagama area on 17 January 2023 at Sri Dharmarama Viharaya, Mangalagama with the patronage of Mrs Ganga Silva residing in Belgium. The programme was coordinated by Miss Sashikala Gunarathne and Miss Nadee Samarasinghe, members of the ‘Manushath Hadawath” charity foundation and the ‘Dahamli Charity foundation.
The lighting of the traditional oil lamp marked the beginning of the programme. With the sponsorship of Mrs Thamara Deepani and Mr Withanage Ariyasena who work overseas, donated a wheelchair to a deserving person in a low-income family residing in Sinnavatta village.
During the programme, Mrs Nelum Mendis Palyskara donated a wheelchair to a deserving person in a low-income family residing in Piyasaragama in remembrance of his deceased husband late Mr Sumana Kithsiri Paliskara. Meantime, she donated a pack of dry rations worth Rs. 10,000/= for a needy family in Keviliyamadu and further, extending her hand of compassion she donated an Air Mattress for a Patient’s Bed.
On the same occasion, a wheelchair was donated to a deserving person in a low-income family residing in a remote area of Keviliyamadu with the patronage of donors from overseas.
The necessary guidance was given by the chief incumbent of Sri Dharmarama Viharaya- Mangalagama Rev Dehigama Gnanarathana thero.
The Commander 231 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Dilupa Bandara graced the event as the Chief Guest. Civil Affairs Officer 231 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Dammika Weerasinghe, Commanding Officer 11 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Major Nimal Padmasiri, Mrs Nelum Mendis Palyskara, Officers, Other Ranks, and a large gathering of villagers were among the participants.
