The inaugural ceremony of planting Indigenous Meicinal Plants was held under the directions of the Major General Jayantha Senevirathne, Commander Security Force – West and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR on 01st July 2020 at Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Ambepussa.
A project with the intention of protecting valuable herbal plants, over 450 varieties of indigenous medicinal plants such as ‘Ehela’ (Cassia fistula), ‘Kohomba’ (Azadirachtaindica), ‘Bael fruit’ (Aegle marmelos), ‘Mee’ (Madhucalongifolia), ‘Kumbuk’ (Terminali aarjuna), ‘Kaluwara’ (Diospyro sebenum), ‘Sandalwood’ (Santalum album), ‘Nelli’ (Phyllanthus emblica) , ‘Baheda’ (Artocarpus sericicarpus), ‘Black plum’(Syzygium cumini) etc.
The event was valued with the participation of veteran Ayurvedic Doctor Sampath Indika, Chairman Suwasetha Hela Osu Ayurvedic Hospital in Piliyandala, along with Mr. K.D.C.S. Kumaratunga, the Commissioner of Department of Ayurveda, Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services, Dr. Tissa Jinasena, the owner of Jinasena Group, Jinasena Electric Motors (Pvt.) Limited, Jinasena Agricultural Machineries (Pvt) Ltd. and Jinasena Engineering Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. in view of safeguarding indigenous herbal species and setting an example to stimulate others to grow plant.
Ayurvedic Doctor Sampath Indika, handed over the first herbal sapling of Sandalwood (Santalum album) to Mrs. Indu Senevirathne, President Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit and Brigadier Dammika Dissanayake, Centre Commandant RC SLSR. Later they joined in planting the ayurvedic sapling in the premises of the Regimental Centre to symbolize the event.
Mrs Indu Senevirathne, President Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit, Brigadier Dammika Dissanayake, Centre Commandant RC SLSR, Mrs. Rohini Dissanayake, Sectary Sinha Seva Vanitha Unit, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the plantation programme.
