SLSR SVB Initiated New ‘Ranaviru Abhinandana Pooja 2022’ Scholarships Offered to 60 Children of War Heroes

The ‘Ranaviru Abhinandana Pooja 2022’ stage 3, the programme of awarding scholarships was exclusively initiated by the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch (SLSR-SVB) presented scholarships to 60 sons and daughters of the Army War Heroes' families on 03 September 2022 at the Main Auditorium, the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Ambepussa, in view of encouraging and motivating the students for higher studies.

Mrs Inoka Karunarathne, former president of the Sinha Seva Vanitha Unit graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander Security Force - East and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR at the invitation of Mrs Omila Jayawardena, President, SLSR SVB graced the awarding ceremony as the Guest of Honour. Among the recipients were the sons and daughters of the fallen War Heroes and the injured War Heroes who fought for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The project coordinated by Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander SFHQ (E) and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR received a joint sponsorship from Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya, a past Royalist together with his schoolmates at Colombo Royal College and a group of scholars from the University of Sri Jayawardanapura to donate a monthly scholarship of Rs.2750.00 throughout the year for 26 children of the war heroes. Furthermore, they also contributed to donate 34 packs of school items each worth Rs. 9000.00.

Sri Lanka Sinha Seva Vanitha Branch subsidized seven students and each received Rs. 20,000.00 in appreciation of their academic performances at the GCE (A/L) Examination. Moreover, Major General (Retd) Maithri Dias and Mr. Mahanama were given the long-time scholarships, as saving accounts worth Rs. 3,000.00 each and for which monthly dividends are paid to the beneficiaries.

The brief ceremony, attended by a restricted number of 45 beneficiaries due to health concerns, went ahead after lighting the traditional oil lamp, recital of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit theme song and observance of a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes.

Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya in a brief address to the occasion conveyed his congratulations to the beneficiaries and urged them to continue their studies well. Major General Priyantha Jayawardena Commander SFHQ (E) and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR took time off and interacted with the recipients of those scholarships, sharing a couple of thoughts and pleasantries.

Major General Dinesh Nanayakkara, Major General (Retd) Maithri Dias, Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala, Centre Commandant SLSR, Senior Members of the SLSR Seva Vanitha Branch, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s programme.
