Commander Security Force – East, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena assumed duties as the 16th Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 23 May 2022 at the office of the Regimental Centre , Ambepussa.
The programme commenced in accordance with the military traditions. Major General Priyantha Jayawardena was welcomed by the Deputy Centre Commandant, RC SLSR Colonel Dulitha Perera and was honoured by a guard turn out on his arrival. Subsequently, he received the salute presented by SLSR troops at the parade square. The charming and dignified military Guard of Honour was reviewed by the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment and was accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Brigadier Viraj Wimalasena, Centre Commandant RC SLSR following the military traditions.
Later, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena in his new office placed the signature in a formal document symbolizing the assumption of duties as the Colonel of the Regiment.
Afterwards, a floral tribute was paid at the War Heroes Monument in memory of all valiant Officers and Other Ranks of the SLSR who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
Newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment was invited to plant a sapling to mark this significant day and took part for a refreshment hosted by the other ranks at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess of the Regimental Centre SLSR.
He addressed the troops at the main auditorium and later posed for a group photograph with all Officers and the event concluded with a ‘Lunch’ at Officers’ mess SLSR.
Major General Priyantha Jayawardena succeeded Major General Kithsiri Liyange who retired from the service a few days ago.
