The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 2 (Volunteer) Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment jointly staged the Inter Battalion Athletic Meet - 2024 at the Sports Complex, Digana on 02 and 03 March 2024 amid formal ceremonies.
Major General WLAC Perera RWP RSP USP, Director General of Directorate of the Movement, graced the commencing ceremony of the athletic meet as the Chief Guest on 02 March 2024.
Major General WPADW Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, graced the closing ceremony of the athletic meet as the Chief Guest on 03 March 2024.
Generating glimmers of new hopes to the field of SLSR athletics in future, about 275 young and energetic SLSR athletes, representing 16 Battalions illustrated their athletic prowess in this annual event, comprised of track and field events during this Two day long Athletics Championship.
11th (Volunteer) Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment shone brilliantly securing the first place with 174 points in the Meet while 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment grabbed the second place with 103 points. 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment gained the third place by obtaining 100 points.
The day’s Chief Guest expressing his happiness over SLSR Athletic achievements congratulated each of them and distributed trophies and medals to the winners.
The ceremonial closing of the event followed the closing statement of the Chief Guest.
Brigadier CS Thibbotuge, Centre Commandant of SLSR, Brigadier WWMPWWBR Palamakumbura RWP RSP, Director Management and Maintenance of Army Base Hospital Kandy, Brigadier JMTNB Karunathilaka, Brigadier Coordinator (Volunteer) of Security Force Headquarters (East), Colonel TBMR Kandekumbura RSP USP, Deputy Centre Commandant of SLSR together with several Senior Officers and Other Ranks were associated with closing ceremony.
