The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) conducted a 'Bakmaha Ulela' (Sinhala New Year Festival) at Ambepussa SLSR Regimental Center, together with all Officers, Other Ranks, family members and civil employees on 6 April 2025.
Major General J K R Jayakody RWP USP, General Officer Commanding of 58 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment of SLSR and Mrs. Idunil Jayakody, Chairperson of SLSR Seva Vanitha Branch attended as the distinguished guests of the day’s event and they were received by Brigadier H A I Perera RWP RSP USP ndc the Centre Commandant of SLSR and Mrs. Dilrukshi Perera, Secretary of SLSR Seva Vanitha Branch.
The festival marked the beginning by lighting the traditional oil lamp and consisted of numerous new year games, including, Marathon, Lissana Gaha, Kana Mutti, Baloon Blasting, Hidden Guest, Running with Lemon on a Spoon, Singithi Awrudu Kumariya and Awrudu Kumaraya, etc.
Meanwhile, the Colonel of the Regiment along with the Centre Commandant and Senior Officers gave away gifts to the winners in different competitions conveying best wishes for a happy and prosperous Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Simultaneously, in appreciating the service of the civil staff serving the Regimental Centre, gift parcels were presented by the Colonel of the Regiment.
Council members, Senior Officers including Commanding Officers, SLSR-SVB members, Other Ranks, family members and civil employees attended the event.
