The troops of ‘Sinha Diriya Piyasa’ Project Centre under Headquarter Battalion in the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Sinha Seva Vanitha Branch jointly organized a programme to donate wheelchairs with the assistance of Leo Clubs in Leo Multiple District 306 at the Colombo University. Under the project of ‘Sahurda Yarthra 3.0’ for the 3rd consecutive time, the Leo Club has donated 9 wheelchairs to the differently-abled Sinha War Heroes at the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
The ceremony was held at the Main Auditorium, Regimental Centre SLSR Ambepussa on 27 February 2022 with the participation of the Commander Security Force – West and Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, as the Chief Guest along with the President Sinha Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs Dharshani Liyange.
The Programme was commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a welcome dance of the SLSR cultural team and the welcome speech delivered by the Commanding Officer, Headquarter Battalion, RC SLSR, Major Kamal Gnnarathne. Later, the Chairperson of the ‘Sahurda Yathra 3.0’ Project, Leo Rushani Sasipaba delivered a speech on behalf of all members who were present on the occasion while highlighting their charity work and future plans.
Meanwhile, the President SLSR- SVB Mrs Dharshani Liyanage handed over the cheques to get medical treatment for the two children of the serving war heroes under their project of charity.
Subsequently, the Commander Security Force – West and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage addressed the gathering and conveyed special thanks to the Leo Club members of the Colombo University for their gratefulness to the War Heroes even after 13 years of the end of the war. At the same time, he specially thanked Brigadier (Retd) Dayamal Jayasooriya for coordinating this programme of donating wheelchairs.
Finally, admiring the well-deserved charity a token of appreciation was given away to all Leo Club members who were present on the occasion and reciprocating the same the Chairperson of ‘Sahurda Yathra 3.0’ Project Leo Rushani Sasipaba gave away a memento to Colonel of the Regiment SLSR Major General Kithsiri Liyanage. The programme culminated with the vote of thanks given by Major Aruna Hewage.
The Senior members of the Sinha Seva Vanitha Branch, Staff Officers of the RC SLSR and Other Ranks participated in the event.
