The flag awarding ceremony of the redesignated 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment was held at the Regimental Headquarters in Ambepussa on 02 December 2022 morning with the grace of Major General Priyantha Jayawardene, the Quarter Master General and the Colonel of the Regiment as the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest was welcomed by the Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeewa Dissanayake , General Staff Officers 1 RC SLSR at the entrance to the Regimental Headquarters and invited him to review the military-honoured guard turnout offered by the 10 SLSR troops.
By displaying the ceremonial customs, the Colonel of the Regiment was ushered to the prestigious saluting dais to receive the General's salute of the parade by Colonel Wajira Amarasiri, Deputy Centre Commandant RC SLSR . Afterwards, Major General Priyantha Jayawardene handed over the flag of 10 SLSR to the Commanding Officer Major Sampath Nallaperuma by marking the honour and pride of ceremonial military customs.
Senior Serving Officers of former 10 SLSR, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of RC SLSR and Other Ranks were participated for the event.
The 10th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment was raised on 23 January 1994 and renderd its service to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland during operations against LTTE terrorism. This battalion was converted to the 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment on 04 February 2007 due to operational requirements and removed from the Battalion list of SLSR.
The re-desination of 10th battalion was authorized by special Army Order while suppressing the junior most battalion (24 SLSR) of the SLSR.
