A new house constructed by 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops under the close supervision of the 8 SLSR Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kumara Athukorala and also under the guidance of Colonel of the Regiment SLSR and Commander, Security Forces -Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara and was vested in the family of a late War Hero in Ilukthenna, Rambukkana on Saturday (6) during a simple warming ceremony.
Financial grants provided jointly by the Directorate of Veterans Affairs and the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit enabled the SLSR RHQ to erect this house considering the need of family members of late War Hero, Corporal P. L. D. G Bandula of 9 SLSR who was living in Ilukthenna village at the time he laid his life on behalf of the country.
To be in line with the conceptual guidance of General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army to this effect, the SLSR - RHQ too has embarked on constructing as many houses as possible for families of fallen War Heroes and differently able soldiers with the support of the Army HQ. Mrs. Shiromi Bandara, Chairperson, SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit, together with the 8 SLSR Commanding Officer cut a ribbon, observed rites, and rituals, and warmed the new house that cost about Rs 1.5 million.
Family members of the beneficiary and residents of the area were present during the ceremony.
