The Battalion was formed on 1st September 2009 at Alampil, Mullaitivu.
Major AMC Abeykoon RWP was appointed as the Battalion’s first Commanding Officer (Officiating).
Being deployed in the Alampil the Battalion engaged in the resettlement of the displaced and in other infrastructure development activity carried out in the area. The Battalion also organizes and conducts medical clinics for the residents of the area.
On 5thJuly 2012, Lieutenant Colonel AMC Abeykoon RWP handed over the command of the Battalion to Major RANP Ranaweera.
As a welfare measure for the personnel of the Army, the Battalion constructed and manages a resort in Alampil. The resort was declared open by the former GOC of the 59 Division, Brigadier MKD Perera RWP RSP USP on 26th June 2013.
