Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard celebrated the 28th anniversary on 01st November 2018.
Maj Gen A W M A W N Ranawana RWP RSP ndc psc spearheads the Regiment at present, armed with a farsighted leadership, arming the guardians with necessary skills and competencies. SLNG could realize possession of its own parade with the mediation of its proud leadership, and was able to offer a guard turnout and a colorful ceremonial parade to Colonel of the Regiment year marking its 28th anniversary on 01 November 2018 in accordance with military formalities, which was followed by a troop address by the Colonel of the Regiment.
A Mango sapling was planted in the Heraliyawalawatta camp premises by Colonel of the Regiment, coinciding with the anniversary, followed by posing for group photographs. A lunch had also been arranged and Colonel of the Regiment attended the event as well.
At the War Hero monument, observance of a two-minute silence in memory of all War Heroes kicked off the day’s agenda and Colonel of the Regiment laid a floral wreath at the foot of the memorial.
The memorial ceremony reached its end with the sounding of the Last Post and the Reveille in accordance with military traditions before trumpeters added their ceremonial melodies to mark the culmination of honours.
A ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony on 30, October to invoke blessings on the SLNG, followed by the ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) and the alms (Sangeeka Daana), the following day to 28 members of the Maha Sangha, added further importance to anniversary events.
Senior Officers of SLNG, Commanding Officers, Regimental Staff Officers, along with other SLNG Officers and Other Ranks including Regimental Sergeant Majors of the SLNG attended the anniversary programmes.
