Commander of the Army has instructed respective Army authorities to build a permanent house for the family of S/5Q02878 Pte Mahesh Kumara of 5 SLNG, who faced an untimely demise a wing to a heart ailment while on active service, after noticing that the war heroe\'s wife and children reside in a temporary shelter at No 227, Athawetunu Wewa, Welioya.
Mr. Vijitha Gamage, the Mullaitivu District Manager of National Housing Development Authority has volunteered to release Rs:200,000.00 for the family from National Housing Development Authority to facilitate construction of the house and some more philanthropists have agreed to extend their assistance financially.
The house is to be built by troops of 17 SLNG under the super-vision of Commander 62 Division, Maj Gen B H M A Wijesinghe USP ndu psc on the guidance of Commander SF HQ (Wanni) Maj Gen J R Kulatunge RSP ndc psc. The construction of the new house commenced auspiciouly at 1156 hrs on 08 December 2016 under the patronage of Commander 62 Division. The event was attended by the SLNG Centre Commandant Brig D H M W B Thammita.
On the instruction of the Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG Maj Gen A P De Z Wickramarathne RWP ndu psc the family members of the demised soldier were gifted with dry ration, school necessities and other essential household requirements.
