TWO MORE BUSH FIRES BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL

Troops of the 19 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) of the 11 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C), acted fast and doused two fast spreading bush fires in Ginigathhena and Mokawatte Forest Reserve areas in Kandy Sunday (8) evening. People in the area soon after the fires broke out in the Wewelthalawa Forest range had tipped off the 19 SLNG troops of the 111 Brigade, deployed in the area, asking for help to bring it under control. Similarly, more than twenty 19 SLNG troops attended to a fast spreading bush fire in the Mokawatte Forest range in Kandy and brought it under control within an hour around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday (8). Troops later on kept the forest officials in the area informed of the extent of the damage to the areas. Lack of seasonal rains and prevailing dry spells are attributed to frequent bush fires in several areas of the country.
