The 33rd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) was marked at SLNG Regimental HQ at Heraliyawala, Kurunegalaon Wednesday (1November), headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army and Colonelof the Regiment SLNG.
Brigadier H.A Keerthinatha RSP KSP psc, Centre Commandant of SLNG warmly welcomed the Commander of the Army to the premises. In accordance with military traditions, SLNG troops presented the formal Guard Turnout salute to the Commander of the Army.
Next, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army was invited to ceremonially inaugurate the renovated Parade Square in the camppremises by unveiling a plaque to that effect. A ceremonial parade afterwards saluted the day’s Chief Guest on arrivalat the parade ground.
As one more segment of the day’s agenda, the Commander of Army opened aplaque and vested the new sports complex in the SLNG troops.The Commander of the Army, together with the SLNG Centre Command
ant and other invitees had a close look at the sports complex and watched a display of Karate and Judo, presented by SLNG Judo players who are crowned as Army champions for consecutive 20 years and Karate players who could grab the Army Karatetitle for 13 years.
Afterwards, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, joined an All Rank tea where the Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG had the opportunity of interacting with troops present.
At the same time, the Commander of the Army sat for several group photographs and planted a sapling inside the camp premises.
Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndupsc, Adjutant General of the Army, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff of the Army, Major General M.T.K.R Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, a large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment participated in this anniversary arrangements.
