SLNG the youngest member of army volunteer force which saw its origins on 01 November 1991 celebrated the 27thanniversary on 01st November 2017. SLNG can ardently be proud of its stupendous achievements and dedication towards the relation of defense interests of the motherland over the past 27 gainful years.
Maj Gen AP de Z Wickramaratne RWP ndupsc spearheads the regiment at present, armed with a farsighted leadership, arming the guardians with necessary skills and competencies. SLNG could realize possession of its own parade with the mediation of its proud leadership, and was able to offer a guard turnout and a colorful ceremonial parade to its Colonel of the Regiment year marking its 27th anniversary on 01 November 2017 in accordance with military formalities, which was followed by a troop address by the Colonel of the Regiment. This is the first time that the Colonel of the Regiment SLNG was awarded a parade in its own parade ground throughout the glorious history of the regiment.Center Commandant Brigadier DHMWB Thammita received the chief guest and the president of SVB – SLNG Mrs. RuviniSujeewaWickramarathne was warmly welcomed to the occasion by senior members of the ladies club.Former Colonel of the Regiment Brigadier Jerry Alwis(retd) Maj Gen and Mrs. HDW Kariyawsam, former Centre Commandant Brig JV Siriwardane (retd), Center Comdt VIR Brigadier WSAriyasinghe,Comd 532 Bde Brig PJP Gamage, Centre Commandant SLSR Brigadier K Liyanage, Comd 143 Bde Brig LSP Perera, Senior Council members Brig PMLChandrasiri,Comd 232 Bde Col RoshanJayamanna, Col SB Kohona,Col IHSWijesena, Col AJ Gunawardena, and senior officers of SLNG, Commanding Officers, Bn Regimental Seargent Majors and a large no of other ranks made the occasion more proud.
A Celyon Ironwood (Na) sapling was planted in the Heraliyawalawatta camp premises by Colonel of the Regiment, coinciding with the anniversary, followed by posing forgroup photographs with Regimentalstaff, the commanding officers and with all participated officers.An all ranks tea had been arranged and Colonel of the Regiment shared some lighter moments with the SLNG members. A lunch had also been arranged and Colonel of the Regiment attended the event as well.
Towards the evening, a commemoration ceremony of brave fallen guardians was held with the participation of family member of valiant war heroes amidst all – religious blessings and Colonel of the Regiment discussed their familial concerns caringly, at the event.
This monumental event was graced by Colonel of the Regiment, Maj Gen PiyalWickramaratne as the chief guest flanked by the president SVB – SLNG Mrs .RuviniSujeewaWickramaratna. A host of invitees including former Colonels of the Regiment, former Center Commandants, Regimental Council members, Commanding Officers, Regimental Staff Officers, along with other SLNG officers and other ranks including regimental Sergeant Majors attended the event.
