Construction of a new house for the family of S/5Q02878 Private Mahesh Kumara AMC of SLNG who met with an untimely demise due to a heart ailment, commenced on 08 December 2016 after it was brought to the notice of the Commander of the Army that the family resided at a temporary shelter at the address No.227, Ethawetunu Wewa, Welioya.
Mr. Vijitha Gamage, Mullaitivu District Manager of National Housing Development Authority donated Rs. 200,000.00 for the construction, whilst Arya Foundation, Ethulkotte granted furniture and other household items worth Rs. 3.5 Lacks and it was coordinated by Major General Ajith Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding 62 Division. Manpower requirement of the project was fulfilled by troops of 5 and 17 SLNG.
The newly constructed house was granted to the family on 25.01.2017 at a simple ceremony by Major General Ruwan Kulathunga, Commander Security Forces (Wanni) on the invitation of Commander 62 Division. The event was attended by Mr. Vijitha Gamage, Mullaitivu District Manager of National Housing Development Authority , Brig DHMWB Thammita Centre Commandant SLNG, Commanding Officers of 5 and 17 SLNG along with Army members. At the occasion, a 500 l water tank and some other valuable essentials were donated to the family on the instructions of Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, the Colonel of the Regiment SLNG.
