Guardians mela -2017, the flagship variety show organized by Sri Lanka National Guard, held on 08 and 09 September 2017 at Maligapitiya Grounds, Kurunegala, for the 4th consecutive spell.
The multi – variety show coupled with a musical extravaganza, trade fair and festivities was spearheaded on the direction and guidance of SLNG’s Colonel of the Regiment Major General A P de Z Wickramaratne RWP ndu psc.
The variety show plus the fair was staged in order to raise funds for welfare of the families of fallen war heroes, differently abled service personal and for the upliftment of the regiment. The event drew huge crowds on both days and “Seeduwa sakura” musical band along with “Red Arrows” dancing group, provided entertainment to thronging crowds on 08 September. “Flash Back” musical band beautified the event on 09 September reverberating the surroundings, famous artistes too joined hands to add colour to the event. “Swarnawahini” and “Sri FM” were designated as official electronic media for the event and “Wijaya News papers (Pvt) Ltd provided print media sponsorship. Ceylon Biscuit Ltd and Abans (Pvt) Ltd provided the core sponsorship financial for the event.
The arrangement consisted of stalls, filled with festive decorations, Clothes, Dry Food items, Essentials, Readymade garments and many more things. Seva Vanitha members, under the guidance of Hon. President SVB- SLNG, Mrs. Ruvini Sujeewa Wickramaratne, had organized stalls showcasing ornamental plants, domestic implements and a snack shop.
Adventurous entertainment shows, Artillery displays and Armored vehicle show grabbed the attention of the teaming up crowds.
Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Piyal Wickramaratne along with the President – SVB SLNG Mrs. Ruvini Sujeewa Wickramaratne graced the opening day proceedings as Chief Guests. Other invitees included Colonel of the Regiment- VIR, Major General A Kariyakarawana, Major General D C Keppetiwalana – GOC 66 Division, Major General M Mudannayake – Commander, FMA(E), Brig H G I Vidyananda – Commandant ASL, Brig HMUB Herath- Director Dte of Ordnance Services, Brig PJP Gamage - Commander 532 Brigade, Brig K Liyanage Centre Commandant- SLSR, Brig LSP Perera Commander 143 Bde, Brig PML Chandrasiri – Commandant MSTS, Colonel AN Amarasekera Col (MGO) AHQ, Colonel DCVK Kulatunge Col (MS) SLAVF and many other senior military officers.
The event was graced by North Western Provincial Governor, Hon. Mrs. Amara Piyaseeli Rathnayaka on the closing day as the chief guest at the invitation of Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Piyal Wickramaratne . Maj Gen DAR Ranawaka, MLO-MOD, Maj Gen HDW Kariyawasam (retd), Director Infantry Brig WAKB Udalupola, Brig KWR De Abrew – PSO SLAVF, Col PGMVJ Pananwala- Dy Centre Commandant RHQ VIR, Colonel JATDM Jayasooriya, Colonel KPS Silva Col (S&T), Colonel DMS Chandrasiri FM Ranaviru Apparel Yakkala and many senior officers too made their presence on the day. Former Center Commandants SLNG Brig JV Siriwardhana (retd), Brig N Bertram (retd), too attended the event.
Centre Commandant SLNG, Brig DHMWB Tammita, Deputy Centre Commandant Colonel Roshan Jayamanna, Regimental Council Members Colonel SB Kohona, Col IHS Wijesena, Colonel AJ Gunawardane, Regimental Senior Officers, Staff Officers and SLNG Commanding Officers were present during both days.
Colonel of the Regiment and all staff Officers convey the kind gratitude for all the contributors in various aspects who contributed for success of the event.
