A Vesak Lantern Competition has organized in commemoration of 14th International Vesak Day with the participants ranging from teams from Security Forces and civilian participants centred around Gangaramay Temple Colombo. On the instructions of the Colonel of the Regiment – SLNG, Major General AP De Z Wickramaratne RWP ndu psc, SLNG too entered the competition by exhibiting a beauteous Vesak Lantern.
Accordingly, making of the Vesak Lantern based on “The Offering of Milk - Based Food to Ascetic Siddhartha by Princes Sujatha” was under taken by Former Regimental Sergeant Major S/28Q00003 WO I HKUP Senevirathna along with other ranks of SLNG under the guidance of Centre Commandant Brigadier DHMWB Thammita, Deputy Centre Commandant Colonel JMRNK Jayamanna RWP, supervised by Commanding Officer 17 SLNG, Major DR Tharukarathna SLNG.
Over 450 creations of Vesak Lanterns from Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Civil Security Department, Civilian Organizations and individuals were exhibited at the Gangaramaya Vesak Zone, where SLNG Vesak Lantern Secured the Second Place in the overall completion and the First Place in the Defence Category.
