NEWLY MODIFIED TWO GUN CARRIAGES SAVE MILLIONS FOR THE ARMY

1. Its a timely requirement of the Sri Lanka Army to have more gun carriages to carry the coffins of fallen officers and other rankers. When it was planned to import 2 x Gun carriages the estimated cost was around Rs. 10Mn. Therefore under the instructions of the Director of EME Brig MAAD Sirinaga, commanding officer of EME (Arty) Bn Lt Col DMDAB Dhanasekara and his technical troops got the challenge for modification and reproduction of 2 gun carriages by using obsolete and condemned 2 x 25 pounders guns. The assigned task was successfully completed by EME (Arty) Bn to the exact satisfaction of the Army within a span of 3 months and subsequently handed over to the Col Comdt of Sri Lanka Artillery.

2. These modified 2 x 25 pounder guns were imported from United Kingdom in 1986 which were manufactured in 1940 and 1943 and after continuously using in many years in the battle field they were condemned in 2005.

3. These newly modified gun carriages are now suitable to use for military funerals under the direction of the Director General Directorate of Personnel Administration.

4 Due to this venture SLEME was able to save nearly Rs. 10 million to the nation within a period of 3 months.
