It is with deep regret and profound sadness that the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and all Ranks pronounce the demise of Captain UMDS Jayasinghe on 23rd April 2019 due to Heart Attack while he was following Program for Maintenance and Repair of Infantry Weapon Course in China.
Captain UMDS Jayasinghe was born on 05th August 1985 as the youngest child to a respectable family in Dikwella. Captain UMDS Jayasinghe received his education at Vijitha Central Collage-Dikwella, and did higher studies at University of Moratuwa. He Obtained the NDT in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology and he proved himself as an outstanding sportsman by representing the collage and the University.
After completion of his higher education, young UMDS Jayasinghe joined Sri Lanka Army as direct enlisted officer cadet on 09th November 2011. On successful completion of basic military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant on 09th November 2011 and subsequently posted to one of the most prestigious regiment, Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He served in numerous Commands in different capacities, displaying a high degree of professionalism and utmost commitment in discharging duties and responsibilities entrusted to him.
His absolute dedication, commitment and competence displayed towards the service were recognized by promoting him to the rank of Captain on 09th November 2014. He held many appointments in different capacities during his glorious military career. Some of the significant appointments amongst them were:
Workshop Officer – Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Base Workshop Udawalawa Officer Command Medium Workshop – Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Armourd Battalion Instructor/Officer command Training Wing – School of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Captain UMDS Jayasinghe had followed a number of local and overseas courses at different stages of his career where his performances were outstanding. He has attended overseas and local training courses in following training centers and achieved higher gradings.
Young Technical Officers Course – India Junior Officer Logistic course – Army School of Logistic – Trincomalee Junior Officer Staff Course – Officer Carrier Development Center – Buttala Program for Maintenance and Repair of Infantry Weapon - China Captain UMDS Jayasinghe was a source of encouragement and inspiration to the Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He served the Army and the country with utmost dedication, displaying exemplary qualities as an officer and a gentleman during his illustrious military career that extended for more than 07th years. The exemplary leadership he gave to the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will be remembered forever.
Finally the last rites of Captain UMDS Jayasinghe will be held on 29th April 2019 at Family Cemetery, Galhena with full military honors. The Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and All Ranks join the family members in sharing their sadness at moment of grief.
