Duties performed by 7 SLAWC
7 SLAWC troops were initially deployed to perform the following duties,
- a. Coastal guard
- b. Manning of Defence line
- c. Manning of Ammo dumps
- d. Road blocks
- e. Assistance to man IDP camps
- f. Cordon and searches
- g. Clerical duties
- h. Telephone/Computer Operators
- i. Receptionists
- j. CIMIC activities
At present, Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion perform the following duties;
- a. Camp security
- b. Clerical duties
- c. Telephone Operators/ Computer Operators
- d. Receptionists
- e. CIMIC activities
Till December 2011, the Battalion was apportioned an area of 12 acres. As at present, an area of approximately 17.5 acres has been allocated for the Battalion, with an area of 2 acres closer to the coastal line as a land for a Holiday Bungalow.
Present Status Quo
By August 2013, we were able to complete the construction of 3 x prefabricated buildings (100 x 20) for Other Rank's accommodation.
Construction of the new Officer’s Mess, Corporal’s Club and the Other Rank’s Mess is in progress.
On 26th July 2013, the new Temple Premises was declared open by Commander Security Forces Jaffna Major General M Hathurusinghe RSP ndc IG, to mark the 3rd Anniversary of the Battalion.
Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion posses a plathora of talents which have been displayed in various forums.
Calypso Band : Formed on 16th June 2012. Has 6 members in the team. Band is able to perform both Sinhala and English Calypso Songs and has earned a reputation within Security Forces Jaffna.
Dancing Team : Formed in April 2013, is consisted of 6 members. Team performs English Sinhala, Hindi and Tamil dances.
Sports : Members of 7SLAWC have shown excellence in the field of sports during the past 3 years. This includes a freefall Para Jumper in the rank of Sergeant.
