7th Battalion Womens Corps is the newest entry to the Corps of Women in the Sri Lanka Army. Battalion was raised on 1st August 2010 and was ceremonially formed on 23rd August 2010 at the premises of Rear Hed Quarters 3(V) VIR, and raised its flag at Myliddy - Jaffna on 1st September 2010.
1st Commanding Officer:
Major TC Kathriarachchi of 1 SLAWC was the first Commanding Officer of the Battalion. Major TC Kathriarachchi SLAWC has previously commanded the 1st Corps of Women’s Corps and the 3rd Battalion of Women’s Corps and continued to command the 7th Battalion to date.
The Battalion was posted 15 x 500 Officers and Other Ranks at the inception. The 500 ORs comprised of 186 Regular cadres and 314 Volunteer cadres, who were absorbed to the Regular Force w.e.f 01 August 2010.
The first Second in Command was Major CKE Rajaguru SLAWC and the first Adjutant was Lieutenant GM Bodaragama SLAWC. Warrant Officer II Gomas BJP was the first Regimental Sergeant Major of the Battalion.
Till August 2011, 7 x Officers from the 5 Volunteer Battalions served as attached troops to the Battalion due the inability of all 15 Officers initially posted to be deployed in Jaffna.
