Lieutenant Colonel D P Ranaweera Lsc took office as the 14th Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (Volunteer) on 03 July 2020 amidst Buddhist religious observances and Military formalities.
The CO was welcomed with a guard turnout on his arrival at the entrance to the camp premises followed by a warm welcome from the Second In Command, Adjutant, Officers, and Other Ranks of the Battalion.
Amidst ‘Seth Pirith’ chanted by the Buddhist monks, the CO placed his signature in the official document signifying the official acceptance of his new appointment at an auspicious time. Marking the day, he was also invited to plant a sapling in the camp premises.
Later, the CO joined with the staff for a cup of tea and officers from the RHQ SLAGSC also joined the occasion.
The proceeding culminated with the troop address by Lt Col D P Ranaweera where he highlighted his scope of duties.
