Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) Warrant Officers (WOs) and Sergeants received a new two storied building with 15 large bed rooms and a Ante room consisting of floor area of approximately 10,620 square feets with necessary facilities.
The new WOs & Sergeants Mess for the Senior NCOs of SLAGSC was declared open by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on the invitation extended by Major General Wajira Palihakkara, Colonel Commandant of SLAGSC to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The completion of this much required facility for approximately 300 SLAGSC Senior NCOs serving in the Panagoda Army Cantonment in AHQ Directorates, RHQ and SLAGSC Battalions became a reality due to unstinted support extended by the present Commander of the Army in keeping with his vision to empower the Senior NCOs with more responsibilities.
The new WOs & Sgts Mess building complex was vested with the Senior NCOs by the Commander of the Army at the auspicious time and later inspected the new accommodation facilities which can be used by not less than 75 Senior NCOs. Regimental Sergeant Major of SLAGSC S/701104 WO I T P Dikowita and Warrant Officers holding senior appointments in the RHQ, SLAGSC Trade School and Battalions accompanied the Comd of the Army during the inspection of the facility.
Religious observances were carried out with lighting of the traditional oil lamp and boiling of milk was done amidst Seth Pirith chanting by the Maha Sangha. Comd of the Army entered his remarks in the visitors book before leaving the premises.
Large number of serving Officers, Senior NCOs, retired Senior Officers and retired RSMs witnessed the opening ceremony which was followed by a All Ranks tea at the NCOs Club. Before his departure Commander of the Army was invited to pose for photographs with WOs holding senior appointments in the Regiment and with the retired Regimental RSMs attended the ceremony on the invitation extended to them by Colonel Commandant, SLAGSC.
