New accommodation block (100' x 20') with toilets for Other Ranks of SLAGSC Trade School and completely refurbished WOs'/Sgts' Mess, 1 SLAGSC Detachment (Kuttigala) was declared open by Maj General Wajira Palihakkara USP, Director General Financial Management, AHQ and Colonel Comdt SLAGSC on 23 March 2019 at the invitation of Colonel Saliya Padmashantha Lsc, Commandant, Trade School SLAGSC and Lt Col Thilak Dissanayake, CO, 1 SLAGSC.
WOs'/Sgts' Mess which was constructed in year 1981 had been declared open by Major General J E D Perera ndc, psc (then Comd of the Army) during the tenure of Capt K G D Mahindanatha SLAGSC, Officer Commanding Army Detachment (Walawa). After 38 years with the instructions and guidance from the present Col Comdt, the WOs'/Sgts' Mess was refurbished and furnished with modern facilities.
Providing decent accommodation for Other Ranks attending All arms courses conducted by the Trade School, SLAGSC had been a crucial issue due to lack of required facilities. The problem was resolved by constructing a new accommodation building (100' x 20') using voted funds which can accommodate up to 72 x soldiers. At present improvements made in respect of the infrastructure facilities at SLAGSC Trade School and the 1 SLAGSC Detachment has reached new heights with the guidance of the Col Comdt, SLAGSC.
The construction teams of SLAGSC and Engineer Service Regiment provided much needed assistance for the construction work and completed within a short period. The Buildings were declared open amidst religious blessings and subsequently, Col Comdt planted a Soursop sapling (Katu Anoda) to mark the occasion which was followed by all ranks tea.
Brig Buwenaka Gunarathna, Director Agriculture and Livestock, Brig Chanaka Weregoda USP, Centre Commandant SLAGSC, Colonel Marlon De Zoysa, Chief Internal Auditor (Teaching Hosp, KDU), Colonel Palitha Hewawasam, Deputy Director, Pay and Records, AHQ, Colonel Saliya Padmashantha Lsc, Commandant, Trade School SLAGSC, Commanding Officers of all SLAGSC Battalions, Senior Staff Officers from RHQ SLAGSC and officers representing the Trade School and Detachment along with Regimental RSM, RSM of 1 SLAGSC, RSM of the SLAGSC Trade School and Senior NCOs were present during the opening ceremony.
