On the directions given by the Colonel Commandant, SLAGSC officers took initiative to organize a felicitation ceremony to a loyal and dedicated member of the civilian staff attached to Regimental Officers' Mess in the capacity of an Steward since 1989 on his retirement. The event was held on 25 January 2019 at the RHQ SLAGSC auditorium.
Mr. Sunil Shantha Malalagama joined the government service in 1982 as a member of the civilian staff of the Sri Lanka Army. He served with the 1 SLLI up to 1988 in Gurunagar, Kankasanthurei, Velvettithurei, Mathagal and Wadamarachchi areas in Jaffna Peninsula and later received a transfer to RHQ SLAGSC in 1989. Since then Mr. Malalagama rendered his services to Officers of SLAGSC for 30 long years as a steward in the Regimental Officers' Mess. He has served under 05 Regimental Commanders and 09 Colonel Commandants of SLAGSC during his tour of duty. He is due to retire from government service on 04 Feb 2019 on completion of 37 years of unblemished and loyal service to the Sri Lanka Army in general and Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps in particular.
Major General Wajira Palihakkara USP, Colonel Commandant along with Mrs Kamani Palihakkara, President SLAGSC Seva Vanitha Branch graced the felicitation ceremony. Council members, senior officers, officers, SLAGSC Seva Vanitha senior members, RSM of the Regiment, Battalion RSMs and civilian staff attached to RHQ and SLAGSC units were present to bid farewell to Mr. S S Malalagama. Colonel Commandant highly appreciated the loyal, exemplary and dedicated service rendered by Mr. Malalagama to the Sri Lanka Army and the Regiment. He wished him and his family all the very best in future endeavors on behalf of SLAGSC family. Subsequently a token of appreciation was presented to Mr & Mrs S S Malalagama by Colonel Commandant, and Mrs Kamani Palihakkara respectively.
Mr. Malalagama deeply moved by the gesture, thanked the Colonel Commandant and all members of the Regiment for organizing a farewell to him.
