SLAGSC REGIMENTAL BAND SECURES 1st PLACE IN THE INTER REGIMENT DRILL / BAND COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY THE ARMY HQ

Inter Regiment Drill, Pay Stick and Band competition - 2018, organized by the Army HQ was held from 06 to 17 August 2018 at the 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery parade square, Army Cantonment, Panagoda.

On the far sighted guidance of Col Comdt, Maj Gen W R Palihakkara USP, SLAGSC Regimental band led by S/702994 L/Cpl Perera S K R K of 1 SLAGSC secured the "Best Regimental Band" title for the first time in its history. This magnificent achievement is the outcome of commitment, sacrifice, sweat of all team members and planned training, continous guidance and supervision by the staff at the Regiment of SLAGSC, contribution made by Maj (QM) S W B Ediriringhe SLAGSC and Lt (QM) E L N Kumara SLAGSC of the Army School of Music to coach and guide the members of the band.

SLAGSC drill platoon led by Capt D K M P Jayarathna SLAGSC, displayed their skills in front of a large gathering and was placed 13th out of 19 Regiments that took part in the competition. The standard of drill, training and motivation displayed by the Regimental drill team was exemplary. Platoon Commander, Capt D K M P Jayarathna SLAGSC was ranked overall 9th for his command, drill and performance.

Pay stick drill team led by S/701264 WO II Perera S K R K - 3 SLAGSC (P&R) secured the 5th place out of 19 teams participated in the competition. The standard displayed in all segments of the competition speaks volumes regarding the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of drill instructors involved in shaping and coaching the respective teams.

Overall it was a spectacular event which everyone is of the opinion that SLAGSC Regimental Drill team, Pay Stick drill team and Regimental Band exhibited their skills in most professional and meticulous manner. Col Comdt hosted an all ranks tea in appreciation of the commitment of the instructors and the members of teams which took part in the competition. Col Comdt, SLAGSC and Director General Financial Management of Sri Lanka Army, Major General W R Palihakkara USP, Director Pay and Records Brig L Wijesundara RSP, Centre Comdt W A A C P Weragoda USP, Director Army Benevolent Fund Col P P J Fernando, large number of senior and junior officers, Regimental Sergeant Major, Warrant Officers, Senior NCOs and Other Ranks from all SLAGSC units were present during the event.
