The Defence Services Weight Lifting Championship conducted to coincide with the Defence Service Games 2018 conducted on 13 September 2018 at the Indoor Gymnasium of the University of Keleniya with the participation of 24 x male and 21 x female lifter from Tri Forces.
The award for the "Best Lifter" in the Competition won secured by S/O103055 Private Kumara W D I of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps who took part in the competition in 48 kg category. He lifted a total of 240 Kgs (Snatch - 110 Kgs and Clear & Jerk 130 Kgs) to his credit. Which earned him the much covered award of "Best Lifter" in the Defence Services. He was appointed Lance Corporeal in recognition of his achievements by the Colonel Commandant, SLAGSC and Chairman Army Bodybuilding, Weight Lifting and Power Lifting Committee, Major General W R Palihakkara USP on 13 September 2018.
In the women's 48kg category S/O103056 Private Abeysekara D D D of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps won the Gold Medal by securing 1st Place, Total of 125 Kgs (Snatch - 55Kgs and Clear & Jerk - 70 Kgs) was lifted by the athlete bringing victory to Sri Lanka Army to emerged as overall champions in the Defence Service Weight Lifting Competition.
Further, athletes ware commended by Major General W R Palihakkara USP for their performance and bringing much needed victory to Sri Lanka Army.
