The Seva Vanitha Branch of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps organized a series of welfare and facilitating events to mark the International Women's Day on 09 April 2022 at the premises of Regimental Headquarters in Panagoda.
On the conceptual directions of Mrs. Eranga Hewawasam the incumbent President of Seva Vanitha Branch, all committee members in coordination with Regimental Centre SLAGSC distributed school stationery packs each worth of Rs. 2500.00 to 116 children belong to the families of Civil Staff of SLAGSC. Consecutively, the Seva Vanitha Branch facilitated the Civil Staff of SLAGSC with distributing a number of 86 dry ration packs each worth of Rs. 4000.00, during the program.
The Women's Day celebration program followed with more donations and welfare for needy families. Donation of 10 Lamp Wick manufacturing machines each worth of Rs. 3200.00 to spouses of Other Ranks who are expecting future self-employment, inimitable gift packs for 20 special needs children, donation of a wheelchair to beloved father of S/703680 Sergeant Wijekoon W M S B, and financial donation worth Rs. 1 million to progress the construction of new house for S/703296 Corporal Prasad H A A took place in the auditorium of Regimental Headquarters.
Among special invitees of the occasion, Mrs. Marina Abayakoon the Founder of Marina Abay contributed for the donations to special needs children and Mrs Chathurika Kaluarachchi a committee member of Seva Vanitha Branch made the donation of wheelchair. Mr. Priyadarshana Benthota Arachchi, the Director of Herbline Cosmetics made financial contributions to construct a new house for an Other Rank. Further, the presence of popular actress Mrs. Sangeetha Weerarathne made the occasion memorable and colourful.
The occasion consisted many events and awareness programs, was graced by Mr. Chandana Ekanayaka the Commissioner General of Prisons Department as the Chief Guest. Brigadier Palitha Hewawasam Colonel Commandant SLAGSC, Centre Commandant, COs and Senior Staff Officers at Regimental Centre, Special Invitees, Members of Seva Vanitha Branch, Officers and Other Ranks, Civil Staff, and Family Members witnessed the program.
