On the directions of the Commander of the Army, the commemoration of fallen war heroes’ ceremony was held with the chain of memorial event at the Regimental Centre - the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps at 0930 hrs on 18 May 2018 to commemorate fallen War Heroes who laid their lives on behalf of the motherland.
The Colonel Commandant, SLAGSC and the Director General Financial Management of the Sri Lanka Army Major General W R Palihakkara USP gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest today; and a council members, large number of senior officers, officers and Other Ranks took part in the event.
After the arrival of the chief guest, the ceremony was officially commenced and the national flag was hosted by Major General W R Palihakkara USP. After that national anthem and Army song were sang by the gathering and a two minutes silence was observed to commemorate the fallen War Heroes. Centre Commandant, Colonel W A A C P Wearagoda USP reading of the Army Commander’s War Heroes’ Day message followed by the address to the troops by the Colonel Commandant. Colonel Commandant, Major General W R Palihakkara USP laid floral wreath at the ‘SLAGSC Monument’ together with the Regimental Council Members in order to pay homage to fallen five officers and 69 Other Ranks of SLAGSC.
The Colonel Commandant paid his special gratitude to the all Senior Officers and soldiers who took part to bring about peace to the motherland. He wished to attain “supreme nibbana” for those who made supreme sacrifice to the motherland and further he wished speedy recovery for those who wounded in action with the blessing of ‘Triple Gem’.
