One officer, three Non commissioned officers & three civil clerks were appointed to the SLAHQ as the P&R staff to pay monthly salary & allowances on 14 October 1949. P&R office was transferred to Army cantonment Panagoda on 1 October 1958. Army personnel replaced Civil clerks who resigned, to do their duties. The Directorate of P&R was established on 01 May 1994. With the expansion of the Army 30 officers & 545 Non commissioned officers were appointed to the 3 SLAGSC (P&R) which was established on 02 November 2002. The first Commanding Officer was Major A D R Athukorala SLAGSC (O/61440).
