ASVU Conducts a Donation Programme

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) conducted a programme to distribute gift parcels to pregnant women soldiers and to provide financial assistance to Army personnel and civilian employees on 26 February 2026 at Army Headquarters.

The event was graced by Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of ASVU, as the Chief Guest.

During the programme, a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps was granted a sum of Rs. 650,000.00 as financial assistance for the construction of a new house. In addition, four serving Army personnel and two civilian employees were provided financial assistance for house construction, with four grants amounting to Rs. 500,000.00 each and two grants amounting to Rs. 450,000.00 each, respectively.

Furthermore, two financial grants worth Rs. 100,000.00 each were provided for the medical treatment of two children of serving Army personnel who are currently undergoing treatment due to illness. Under a new concept introduced by the President of ASVU, a new financial grant scheme for house construction, totalling Rs. 1,500,000.00, was implemented for soldiers without houses. Accordingly, the final instalment of the housing grant was awarded to a serving soldier of the Commando Regiment, who received Rs. 500,000.00. In addition, a civilian employee serving in the Army was granted Rs. 150,000.00 as the final instalment for his house construction.

Moreover, three sewing machines were donated to the families of a deceased soldier, a serving soldier and a civilian employee to support their self-employment initiatives. Additionally, three laptop computers, donated by Mrs. Samindi Wickramaratne, Chairperson of the Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch, were presented to three daughters of a serving soldier and two civilian employees who are pursuing higher education.

Subsequently, the Army Cultural Dance Troupe performed a graceful dance depicting the emotional essence of motherhood, touching the hearts of all those present. Thereafter, 146 pregnant women soldiers were presented with gift packs containing maternity aid and dry ration packs.

Accordingly, a total expenditure of Rs. 6,275,737.00 was incurred for the welfare of war heroes.
