ASVU Strengthens Welfare Initiatives at AGM

The 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 22 August 2025 at the Multifunction Hall of the Army Headquarters.

The event was graced by Mrs. Swendrini Dissanayake, the President of the ASVU as the Chief Guest.

Following the initial proceedings, the Seva Vanitha song was sung after lighting the oil lamp and two-minute silence was observed in memory of the fallen War Heroes and deceased former Presidents of ASVU.

After that, a documentary video, prepared on the ASVU was broadcasted and the meeting began as per the agenda.

Inaugurating the AGM, the President, ASVU briefed the members about the future plans and proposed projects of the ASVU. Thereafter, Mrs. Darshani Yahamapath, The Secretary of the ASVU presented the report of the last annual meeting and the income and expenditure report was presented by the Treasurer, Major A.S.N Hathurusinghe.

Thereafter, a project report including details and photographs of the social welfare programmrs carried out so far by the President of the ASVU was presented by Major C.T Joseph, the Executive Secretary of the ASVU.

Later on, the welfare projects carried out by the Regimental Seva Vanitha branches and the welfare projects to be carried out were discussed during the AGM.

The Secretary of the ASVU, then delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the AGM. Subsequently, out of 15 Spouses, 10 spouses of Officers and Other Ranks, who had completed an Ayurvedic Beauty Products Course conducted by the IICA Institute was presented with certificates, under the guidance of Mrs. Samindi Wickramarathna, the Chairperson of Commando Regiment SVB.

As per the concept of the Commander of the Army and the President of the ASVU, financial assistance of one million five hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 1,500,000.00) was provided for the construction of a new house for the Army Personnel who do not have the economic capacity to build a house. Accordingly, two Other Ranks and one civilian were benefitted from the programme.

Thereafter, three donations were made for Army Personnel each worth, four hundred fifty thousand rupees (Rs. 450,000.00) to complete the remaining work and three civil workers of Army received three hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 300,000.00) each to complete their partially built houses.

Furthermore, two medical grant, each worth one hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 100,000.00) were donated for the medical treatment of the wife and daughter of two serving personnel. Additionally, medical grant of eight thousand rupees (Rs. 8,000.00) per month for a period of one year, worth Ninety-six thousand rupees (Rs. 96,000.00) was provided to purchase milk powder for twin children of Corporal B.R Nuwan Pradeep of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps.

Also, as the second stage of the financial donation of the partially built houses worth one hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 100,000.00) was provided to Mr. H.N.M.V.L. Madhusanka, a civil worker working under the Sri Lanka Army.

The ceremony, which was adorned with dances performed by the Army Dance troupe, ended with the singing of the National Anthem. After that, the Presidents of all the Chairperson’s of Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches and Senior members of Seva Vanitha Branch enjoyed the tea and engaged in a cordial conversation before posing for a group photograph.
