Under the guidance of Mrs. Swendrini Dissanayake, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), an essential items distribution programme was conducted for 62 pregnant mothers from low-income families in Walipitiya, Matara, on 13 August 2025 at Sri Bodhirukkarama Viharaya, Walipitiya.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Chief Incumbent of Sri Bodhirukkarama Viharaya. Thereafter, beautician Mrs. Chandani Bandara delivered an awareness lecture on beauty care during pregnancy. This was followed by a lecture by Consultant Psychiatrist Mr. K.H. Dhanuja Mahesh on the positive and negative impacts on mental concentration and personal well-being of mothers during pregnancy, emphasising the importance of maintaining a healthy state of mind in order to give birth to a healthy child.
Additionally, a midwife from the Walipitiya Regional Health Office delivered a lecture on proper childbirth practices and postnatal child care. Afterwards, the Commander of the Army, the President of the ASVU, and other distinguished guests distributed essential gift parcels among all the participants present.
The event concluded with the offering of lunch to the beneficiaries. Senior Officers, Officers, members of the ASVU, medical officials and Other Ranks participated in the programme.
