The Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch (GW-SVB) organised the commemorative ceremony of Ranaviru Mapiya Wandana - 2025 (Stage II) to honour the parents of fallen war heroes on 27 July 2025 at the Regimental Headquarters of the Gemunu Watch.
The event was held under the supervision of Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimalaratne, the Chairperson of GW-SVB, under the guidance of Major General W.B.J.K Wimalaratne RWP RSP, the Director General Infantry and the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch.
The ceremony commenced with a Dhamma Sermon at the Regimental Headquarters temple, followed by a floral tribute at the War Heroes’ monument. A special speech was then delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe, which emphasised the invaluable sacrifice made by the parents of fallen war heroes. Following the address, the Chairperson of GW-SVB presented a token of appreciation to the guest speaker.
Subsequently, the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch presented a wheelchair to Lance Corporal U.G. Sarath, who was disabled while representing the Regimental Sports Team. Afterwards, special mementoes were presented to the participants by the Chairperson and members of GW-SVB.
The event concluded with a Help Desk Session arranged to listen to the concerns of the parents and offer necessary support. Members of GW-SVB, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and family members of deceased soldiers participated in the event.
