ASVU Supports 68 Outstanding Students and Provides Financial Aid to Army Personnel

Under the guidance of Mrs Swendrini Dissanayake, the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), a scholarship donation programme was held on 31 July 2025 at the Army Headquarters for 68 children who achieved outstanding results in the G.C.E. Advanced Level 2024 examination by securing three 'A' passes.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The scholarships were awarded by the Commander of the Army and the President of the ASVU, along with other invited guests. A total of Rs. 6,800,000.00 was allocated by the ASVU for the 68 students, with each recipient receiving Rs. 100,000.00.

Following the distribution of scholarships, a vote of thanks was delivered by one of the scholarship recipients, expressing gratitude to the ASVU.

Additionally, a contribution of Rs. 1,500,000.00 was made towards the construction of a house for a soldier of the 15 Sri Lanka National Guard. Three additional housing grants, each worth Rs. 450,000.00, were awarded to three serving Army personnel, while two civilian employees received housing grants of Rs. 300,000.00 each.

Furthermore, financial support was provided for medical treatment for two Army personnel’s families. Each family received Rs. 100,000.00, one for the treatment of a soldier’s wife suffering from a critical illness, and the other for the treatment of a soldier’s son diagnosed with a serious condition.

In addition, a soldier from the 11 Sri Lanka Artillery was granted Rs. 144,000.00 to purchase milk packets for his triplets.

During previous monthly ASVU meetings, the first stage of housing grants was distributed. As part of the second stage of these housing projects, Rs. 150,000.00 each was awarded to two soldiers, and Rs. 150,000.00 each was granted to two civilian employees to complete the remaining work of their houses. Additionally, Rs. 200,000.00 was provided as the second instalment of housing assistance to a war veteran serving in the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME), while a civilian employee of the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations received Rs. 100,000.00 as part of the second stage of his housing project.

Following the scholarship and financial assistance distribution, the recipients posed for a group photograph with the Commander of the Army and the President of the ASVU. All attendees then participated in the tea reception.
