ASVU Donates Wheelchairs to War Heroes and Civil Workers in Need

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) organised a wheelchair donation programme on 17 July 2025 at the ASVU Office premises under the guidance of Mrs Swendrini Dissanayake, the President of ASVU.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Commencing the donation programme, the Commander of the Army presented two electric wheelchairs, each valued at approximately Rs. 700,000.00, to two retired War Heroes who were medically boarded out, to support their daily mobility needs. One recipient was a retired Non-Commissioned Officer from 8 Gajaba Regiment, who lost both legs due to injuries sustained during a terrorist attack on 28 March 2009 in Puthukudiyiruppu. The other recipient was a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, who became visually impaired in his right eye and paralysed on the left side of his body as a result of a mortar attack by terrorists on 17 September 2000 in Sarasalai, Jaffna.

In addition, the ASVU donated wheelchairs to the father-in-law of a staff assistant at Army Headquarters, who is unable to walk and to the mother of a civilian employee of the Military Secretary's Branch, who suffers from a cardiac illness.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.
