ASVU Held Meeting for Second Quater

The second quater council meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) for the month of May 2025 was held on 23.05.2025 in the afternoon at the Multi Function Hall, Building No. 07, First Floor, Army Headquarters premises under the patronage of the President of the Unit.

The Presidents of the Seva Vanitha Branches of all the Regiments representing the Regiments participated in the monthly council meeting held under the patronage of the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Swendrini Dissanayake. Before the commencement of the monthly council meeting, Mrs. Surani Wettasinghe, Human Resources Motivation and Leadership Development Adviser, delivered a meaningful speech on behalf of the Seva Vanitha members present.

After the speech, everyone sang the Seva Vanitha song together and a two-minute silence was observed in memory of the fallen War Heroes. Then, after a short documentary programme was broadcast on the welfare and other activities of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit and the Regimental Seva Vanitha branches, the meeting commenced as per the agenda. The Chairperson addressed the meeting and appointed the following senior member to the vacant position of the Executive Committee in accordance with the constitution.

The Chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, addressing the meeting, informed the meeting about the future plans and proposed projects of the unit and emphasized that everyone should act in accordance with the current Clean Sri Lanka concept of the Hon. President. Further, the Presidents of the Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches were further instructed to cut unnecessary expenses and spend them only on the welfare of the Army personnel.

Thereafter, the Executive Secretary of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Major C.T Joseph - Sri Lanka Army Woman's Corps, presented the report of the previous meeting, and the income and expenditure report was presented by the Treasurer of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Major P.G.P.C Kumari - Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps. Thereafter, the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit gave necessary instructions for the efficient and effective maintenance of the new welfare programmes to be conducted for the welfare of the War Heroes and the welfare projects carried out annually.

The donation programme that followed was attended by the Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, where he and the Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson presented donations for the welfare of the war heroes and their families. Accordingly, 02 new housing grants of Rs. 600,000.00 each were provided to 02 serving War Heroes, 06 semi-housing grants of Rs. 450,000.00 each were provided to 06 War Heroes to complete the remaining work on their half-finished houses, 01 new housing grant of Rs. 350,000.00 each was provided to one serving civilian employee, and 03 semi-housing grants of Rs. 300,000.00 each were provided to three serving civilian employees.

Furthermore, a medical grant of one hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 100,000.00) was provided to a sick child of a civil servant on duty in the Army and three grants of ninety six thousands rupees (Rs. 96,000.00) each for milk powder/hygiene materials were provided to the children of three War Heroes. Similarly, three new housing grants of two hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 200,000.00) each were provided to three war heroes who had received financial assistance under the first phase of the new housing grants in the previous monthly council meetings, and two partial housing grants of one hundred fifty thousand rupees (Rs. 150,000.00) each were provided to two War Heroes under the second phase of the partial housing grants.

A programme was held to provide essential items and equipment for the delivery of their children to 135 pregnant soldiers serving in the Sri Lanka Army, and 30 pregnant soldiers were symbolically presented with essential items and equipment.

Finally, the National Anthem was sung by everyone to mark the end of the monthly meeting. After the singing of the National Anthem, a tea party was held for the pregnant women soldiers and the donors who had arrived, and then everyone posed for a group photograph.
