ASVU Strengthens Welfare Initiatives at Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 12 March 2025 at the Army Headquarters.

The meeting was graced by Mrs. Swendrini Dissanayake, the President of the ASVU.

Following the initial proceedings, a brief presentation was conducted on the welfare activities and other initiatives of the ASVU. Subsequently, the day's agenda discussed, and the President addressed the gathering. The meeting also included the appointment of members to vacant positions in the Executive Committee as follows:

Vice President: Mrs. Priyanga Wickramasinghe
Secretary: Mrs. Surangi Amarapala
Assistant Secretary: Mrs. Anoja Peris
Public Relations Officer (PRO): Mrs. Darshani Yahampath
Assistant Public Relations Officer (Asst PRO): Mrs. Dulashi Meepagala
Overall Project in Charge Coordinator: Mrs. Vindhya Premarathna

The President of the ASVU emphasized that all activities should align with the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, in line with the current government’s directives. Additionally, she instructed the Regimental Seva Vanitha Branch Chairpersons to minimize unnecessary expenses and allocate those funds toward the welfare of Army personnel.

Following this, Major C.T. Joseph, the Executive Secretary of the ASVU, presented the report from the previous meeting. The Treasurer of the ASVU, Major P.G.P.C. Kumari, then presented the audit report. Subsequently, the President provided further guidance on organizing additional welfare programs for war heroes and effectively managing the unit’s annual welfare projects to ensure efficiency and impact.

As part of the day's proceedings, the President facilitated the donation of financial assistance for the welfare of war heroes and their families. Under this initiative:

• Four war heroes currently serving in the Army received housing grants of Rs. 600,000.00 each.
• Two war heroes received housing grants of Rs. 450,000.00 each to complete the remaining work on their partially constructed houses.
• A sum of Rs. 800,000.00 was granted for completing the remaining construction work of a partially built house belonging to a late war hero of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
• Three civil employees serving in the Army each received Rs. 300,000.00 to complete their partially built houses.

Furthermore, three medical assistance grants of Rs. 100,000.00 each and one grant of Rs. 96,000.00 were provided for the medical treatment of four children suffering from illnesses. Additionally, under the second phase of the housing program for war heroes who had previously received initial housing grants:

• Two war heroes each received Rs. 200,000.00.
• Six war heroes each received Rs. 150,000.00.

Moreover, a specially designed electric wheelchair worth Rs. 340,000.00 was donated to the differently-abled child of a war hero from the 8th Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, who has been unable to walk since birth and is currently pursuing school education.

Additionally, the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps Seva Vanitha Branch symbolically handed over a financial donation of Rs. 150,000.00 to the ASVU to support welfare projects initiated for the well-being of war heroes.
