Monthly Meeting Highlights of Army Seva Vanitha Unit - January 2025

The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 31st January 2025 evening at the Multi-Function Hall, First Floor of No. 07 Building at Army Headquarters premises with the participation of Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, Executive Board Members and Senior Members.

Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, the President of ASVU, chaired the meeting, which commenced with the singing of the ASVU song, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of fallen War Heroes. Then, a documentary included the welfare projects conducted by ASVU and Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches was displayed to the audience. Following the agenda, President of ASVU initiated the session addressing the audience. Afterwards, following committee members were appointed to the vacant posts of the Executive Board of the ASVU by its members:

Assistant Secretary - Mrs. Surangi Amarapala
Public Relations Officer (PRO) - Mrs. Anoja Peris
Assistant Public Relations Officer (Asst PRO) - Mrs. Darshani Yahampath
Overall Project in Charge Coordinator - Mrs. Dulashi Megapala

Addressing the gathering, the President, ASVU elaborated the projects to be implemented in the future emphasizing the adherence to the government policy “Clean Sri Lanka”. Further, she instructed the Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons to reduce the unnecessary expenditures and invest in the welfare activities for the members of the Sri Lanka Army.

Subsequently, Mrs. Priyanga Wickramasinghe, Secretary of ASVU, read the minutes of the previous meeting and Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer of ASVU, presented the audit report. The President also emphasized the importance of continuing welfare activities and annual projects aiming at improving the lives of soldiers.

Later, the President of ASVU made some donations for the Ranaviru families. Accordingly, Rs. 100,000.00 worth medical aid for sick child of Corporal Rajapaksha R.P.J and Rs. 200,000.00 financial aid for Lance Corporal De Silva of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps under the second phase of the scheduled Rs. 600,000,00 aid to build the house were made possible during the session.

Upon the conclusion of the monthly meeting, 24 regiments generously donated 24 wheelchairs to ASVU for the benefit of war heroes. The wheelchairs were officially handed over to Brigadier W.A.S.R Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Director of Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation.

The respective Chairpersons and Senior Members of Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches took part in the session and before the culmination of the monthly meeting, all participants appeared for a group photograph.
