ASVU’s New President Takes Over Duties

Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo officially assumed the duties as the 17th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) on 07 January 2025, at the Army Headquarters during a brief ceremony.

Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed by the Coordinating Officer of ASVU extending a cordial reception. Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, the newly appointed Commander of the Army, graced the event and participated in the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.

In keeping with tradition, the new ASVU President signed a formal document at the auspicious time, officially marking her acceptance of the office.

The event was attended by all the Regimental Seva Vanitha Unit Chairpersons, who expressed their support and unity for the incoming President and posed for a group photograph and attend for refreshments.

Subsequently, the President of ASVU made a formal note to commemorate the assumption of office and then engaged in an interactive session with the attendees.

Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo assumed office as the 17th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) on 07th January 2025, following the appointment of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

Born to Mr. Sumanathissa Samarasinghe Dissanayake and Mrs. Priyani Wanasinghe, she is one of three siblings and has two sisters. A proud alumna of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo.

Prior to her current role she served as the Chairperson of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch where she spearheaded numerous welfare projects aimed at improving the quality of life, enhancing knowledge and offering new hope to soldiers, civil servants and their families. Her initiatives included providing medical assistance and housing, made possible through the generous contributions of members and donors.

As the Chairperson of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs. Rodrigo actively led the development of innovative income generating welfare projects to uplift the standards of Gunners. She demonstrated a deep commitment to the economic well-being and personal development of soldiers ensuring effective coordination and promoting a harmonious balance between their family and professional lives. Her efforts included consultations and programs designed to enhance work-life balance.

Drawing from her extensive experience Mrs. Rodrigo, as the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit is committed to further enhancing the well-being of soldiers and civil staff of the Sri Lanka Army. Her vision is to continue providing meaningful support to improve their quality of life and ensure a brighter future for the Army community.
