The monthly meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 30 September 2024 at the Army Headquarters premises with the participation of Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, Executive Board Members and Senior Members.
Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of ASVU, chaired the meeting, which commenced with the singing of the ASVU song, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of fallen War Heroes. Then, a documentary was displayed containing the service rendered by ASVU.
Afterwards, committee members were selected based on the seniority of the ASVU members, as mentioned below:
Vice President - Mrs. Neluka Nanayakkara
Assistant Secretary - Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo
Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Mrs. Priyanga Wickramasinghe
Assistant Public Relations Officer (Asst PRO) – Mrs. Surangi Amarapala
Overall Project Incharge Coordinator - Mrs. Varuni Kulathunga
Addressing the gathering, the President, ASVU elaborated the projects to be implemented in the future. Subsequently, Mrs. Nandani Samarakoon, Secretary of ASVU, read the minutes of the previous meeting and Major P.G.P.C Kumari, the Treasurer of ASVU, presented the audit report.
The President also emphasised the importance of continuing welfare activities and annual projects aimed at improving the lives of soldiers. To address current economic challenges, dry ration packs containing essential food items were distributed to 30 civil employees. Furthermore, necessary school supplies were provided for the children of 30 soldiers and civil employees.
As part of its ongoing initiatives, the Seva Vanitha Budget Centre in Manning Town, administered by ASVU, is currently selling laundry detergent from Unilever. A draw was held for those who purchased detergent items over a three-month period, and Warrant Officer II R.H.S.M. Thilakarathna emerged as the lucky winner, receiving a refrigerator provided by Unilever.
At the culmination of the monthly meeting, all participants had refreshment and president of ASVU had a cordial interaction with members.
